Tradition meets modernity, fashion meets culture. Aboriginal Fashion New Talent Award: Amazing Works in the Social Category
The first “Indigenous Fashion Design New Talent Award” organized by the Hualien County Government has come to a successful end. The award-winning works, which demonstrate the infinite charm and creativity of aboriginal culture, will be exhibited at the Aboriginal Administration Office of the Hualien County Government from now on, and the public is welcome to come to appreciate them.
The theme of the competition was “Mother Tongue”, and designers from aboriginal groups all over Taiwan, with their unique cultural backgrounds and creativity, fused tradition and modernity to create amazing fashionable works. Mr. Lu Zhenliang, the first place winner of the Social Group, named his work “Wandering” to express his nostalgia for his hometown and his exploration of culture through clothing design. His work is not just a piece of clothing, but also a form of life that helps us understand the meaning of daily life. Similarly, this award is not just a design competition, but also a cultural event, and we are honored to have invited a number of fashion industry experts to be the judges, to show the way for the young and emerging designers and to provide advice.
The outstanding works of the other two winners in the social group of the “Indigenous Fashion Design New Talent Award” were also highly praised: the second-place winner, Mr. Yang Zhihao, whose work was titled “Glean, Shatter”, iacikel ta tja inakulidan], with the design concept of “picking up the pieces of culture and reassembling them”, this piece of artwork restores cultural values, reintroduces lost language and techniques, and uses clothing as a medium to continue memories of the past.
The third-place winner was Yang Shuyi, who created a relaxing travel concept inspired by the Paiwanese words for “going out and having fun” under the name “Going for a walk: Ari! Kivangvangan”. The colors and patterns in the artwork reflect the diversity of the natural environment, and through the handwritten text and loose silhouettes, it adds a carefree and casual atmosphere. The woven triangles of the Paiwan tribe gently bring out the ethnic imagery.
These works not only showcase the talent and creativity of the designers, but also embody the rich diversity and deep heritage of the aboriginal culture. The Hualien County Government will continue to support such activities to promote the development of the aboriginal fashion industry, so as to nurture more creative and talented design stars. We believe that through such a platform, we can not only show the world the charm of aboriginal fashion, but also promote cultural heritage and sustainable development. We would like to thank all participants for their enthusiastic participation and all supporters for their encouragement. The Hualien County Government looks forward to witnessing the growth of more aboriginal designers in the future, and together we will see Hualien become an aboriginal fashion capital full of cultural charms, and let the world see the beauty of Hualien's multiculturalism.
